Jen Choi was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She completed her B.S. degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University and further obtained her M.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering at Syracuse University. During her undergraduate degree, she worked at Abiomed, Inc. in Danvers, MA as a design assurance engineer and conducted reliability testing and failure analyses of artificial heart valves. For her M.S. thesis work, Jen investigated the micromechanical and chemical effects of bone cement polymerization in a sheep femur defect model. Currently, she is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University in Professor David Kaplan’s Lab. Her research interests lie in adipose tissue engineering, vascularization of engineered tissues, and 3D in vitro disease modeling. She is currently a visiting student in Professor Gordana Vunjak-Navakovic’s lab at Columbia. Outside of the lab, Jen enjoys taking walks around the city, playing wii tennis, and discovering new cafes with her husband.
