Post-Doctoral Fellows
Cevat Erisken, Ph.D., joined the lab in 2008. His research focuses on the engineering of soft tissue-to-bone interfaces relevent for integrative rotator cuff tendon repair. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey; Master of Science in Economics from City University of London, London, UK; and Doctorate of Philosophy from Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ.
Marissa Solomon, Ph.D. holds a PhD in Chemical Physics from Columbia
University in the city of New York (2009) and a BS in Chemistry from
the University of Richmond in Virginia (2004). Currently, her
research focuses on the synthesis and modification of hydrogels
with glycosaminoglycans and growth factors for tissue engineering
aimed at mimicking the extra cellular matrix and promoting cell
growth and differentiation.
Graduate Students
Nora Khanarian received her B.S. from the University of Pennsylvania in Bioengineering and Materials Science and Engineering. The objective of her research is to develop innovative tissue engineering strategies to regenerate functional soft tissue-to-hard tissue interfaces, specifically, the osteochondral interface.
Kristen L. Moffat, M.S., a 5th year Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University, joined the lab in the fall of 2003. Kristen received her B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University in Materials Science and Biomedical Engineering and also holds a Masters of Philosophy degree. She is currently working on two main projects, functional tissue engineering of the suprapspinatus tendon-to-bone insertion site and the characterization and mechanical properties of ligament-to-bone insertion sites.
Siddarth Subramony is a first year doctoral student in the lab. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Economics in 2008 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His research currently focuses on the the design of composite biomaterials for orthopaedic tissue engineering, specifically for rotator cuff repair and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
Sagaw Prateepchinda (Fai) is a Masters to PhD track student who is working on a dental tissue engineering project, specifically in dental pulp regeneration. Fai joined the lab in fall of 2008, after graduating from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Philip Chuang is a M.S.-Ph.D. track graduate student in Materials Science and Engineering. He received his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University. Philip joined the lab in the fall of 2008 and is currently working on biomaterial design for integrative cartilage repair.
Booth Dargis is a graduate research fellow who joined the lab in the fall of 2008, and is investigating the role of mechanical stimulation for tendon repair. He graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 2008, from Cornell University.
Undergraduate Students
Anne Kwei is a senior in Biomedical Engineering. She joined the lab in her first year at Columbia. Currently, she's working on elucidating the mechanism of cell-material interactions, focusing on stem cell response to nanofiber scaffolds for tendon and ligament repair.
Adebola Adeniran joined the lab in January of 2008 and works on novel biomaterial design for interface tissue engineering. She is in the SEAS class of 2011, majoring in Chemical Engineering.
Michael Tracey is a senior majoring in Biomedical Engineering, and joined the lab in the fall of 2008. He is currently studying mechanoactive scaffolds for integrative tendon repair.
Sarah Gordon, SEAS 2012, joined the lab in the fall of 2008. She is currently studying scaffold mineralization for interface tissue engineering applications.
Nora Haney is a sophomore in Biomedical Engineering with a premedical concentration. She joined the lab in January 2009 and is currently working with Nora Khanarian on hydrogel systems for integrative cartilage repair.
