10/2008 - Prof. Sia and Prof. Larry Kricka will be guest editors for a special issue in December 2008 on "Microfluidics and Point-of-Care Testing" in the journal Lab on a Chip. 10/2008 - Prof. Sia will give invited lectures on global health diagnostics at the World Health Organization African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (Abuja, Nigeria), CIMIT Innovation Forum (Boston), and Bioengineering for Global Health (Duke University). 10/2008 - A paper by Hesam Parsa, Curtis Chin, and co-workers on microfluidic-based diagnostics has been accepted by the journal Lab on a Chip. 09/2008 - We welcome Zuankai Wang, Kweku Addae-Mensah, and Tassaneewan Laksanasopin to the lab, as well as a new group of MS and undergrad students! 09/2008 - Sia lab joins the World Health Organization TDR Targets network. 08/2008 - Sia lab collaborates with PATH on a NIH-sponsored U54 center on global health diagnostics. 08/2008 - Wallace H. Coulter Foundation awards a Phase II grant to the Sia lab on global health diagnostics. 08/2008 - Columbia SEAS features research in Sia lab in two articles (microfabricated tissue engineering and global health diagnostics). 07/2008 - Nature Materials will feature Brian Gillette and co-workers' article on 3D hydrogels on the cover of the August 2008 issue, with an accompanying News & Views article. 04/2008 - A paper by Brian Gillette and co-workers on 3D hydrogels has been accepted by the journal Nature Materials. 04/2008 - Chemical and Engineering News features the our 3D cell-culture paper in Analytical Chemistry. 02/2008 - A paper by Jerry Lii, Wern-Jir Hsu, Hesam Parsa (with undergraduate student Anshu Das and high-school teacher Rob Rouse) on a real-time microfluidic system to study an array of 3D cell-laden extracellular matrices has accepted by the journal Analytical Chemistry. 02/2008 - The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has awarded a grant (led by RTI and Commons Capital) to help develop a point-of-care diagnostics device for global health, in a collaboration with Claros Diagnostics, a company co-founded by Samuel Sia. 01/2008 - The Sia Lab has been awarded an STTR (R41/R42) Phase I grant by the National Institutes of Health to develop a portable device for diagnosing HIV and other infectious diseases. 01/2008 - The Sia Lab has been awarded a $400,000 CAREER grant by the National Science Foundation on developing advanced biomaterials devices. 12/2007 - Curtis Chin's paper (with undergraduate student Krishn Khanna) on microfabricated skin scaffolds has been accepted by the journal Biomedical Microdevices. 10/2007 - Brian Gillette's paper (with undergraduate Genevieve Yang) on "Synthetic tissue biology: tissue engineering meets synthetic biology" has been accepted by the journal Embryo Today. 03/2007 - Yukkee Cheung's paper (with Brian Gillette, Ming Zhong, and Sharmilee Ramcharan) on "Direct patterning of composite microstructures using microfluidics" has been accepted by the journal Lab on a Chip. 01/2007 - Claros Diagnostics, a company co-founded by Samuel Sia on point-of-care lab-on-a-chip technologies, secures $7.8 million in a Series A round. 11/2006 - Curtis Chin's review on "Lab-on-a-chip devices for global health" will be featured as the cover article for the journal Lab on a Chip. 07/2006 - Jerry Lii's review (with Gilbert Hsu and Stephanie Lee) on "Microfluidics" has been accepted by the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia. 06/2006 - Samuel Sia is awarded the Wallace H.
