On Friday, October 1st @ 11:00AM ET, we welcome Prof. Rong Fan from Yale University as he presents, "Space Adventure: The Next Wave of Biology Revolution Fueled by Spatial Omics Technologies."


ABOUT THE SEMINAR

Space Adventure: The Next Wave of Biology Revolution Fueled by Spatial Omics Technologies

In this talk, I will begin with discussing the emergence of a whole new field – spatial omics – and then present a new technology platform called DBiT-seq – microfluidic Deterministic Barcoding in Tissue for spatial multi-omics sequencing – developed in our laboratory. It demonstrated, for the first time, co-mapping of whole transcriptome and a large panel of proteins with high spatial resolution. It is fully compatible with clinical tissue specimens including archival FFPE tissues. Integration of DBiT-seq with single-cell RNA-seq data allows for accurate cell type annotation in relation to spatial location in tissue. I will also show our latest progress of DBiT as a platform technology to enable spatial epigenome (chromatin accessibility and modification) sequencing at cell level. The rise of NGS-based spatial omics is poised to fuel the next wave of biological revolution. Emerging opportunities and future perspectives will be discussed with regard to biomarker discovery and therapeutic development.

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Rong Fan, Ph.D., Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Pathology, Yale University

Dr. Rong Fan is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Pathology at Yale University. He received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley and completed his postdoctoral training at California Institute of Technology before joining the faculty of Yale University in 2010. His current research interest is developing single-cell and spatial omics technologies to study functional cellular heterogeneity and inter-cellular signaling in human cancers and the immune system. He co-founded IsoPlexis, Singleron Biotechnologies, and AtlasXomics. He is the recipient of a number of awards including the NSF CAREER Award and the Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering.
