BME Seminar: Xue Han, Ph.D., Boston University
On Friday, April 1st @ 11:00AM ET, we welcome Prof. Xue Han from Boston University as she presents, "Voltage and calcium imaging of biological neural networks across spatial and temporal scales."
ABOUT THE SEMINAR
Voltage and calcium imaging of biological neural networks across spatial and temporal scales
Neurological and psychiatric disorders affect about one billion people worldwide and cost over $2.5 billion annually. My lab’s current research focuses on inventing novel neurotechnologies and applying innovative approaches to probe the cellular and network mechanisms of brain disorders and brain stimulation therapies, with a goal of developing clinical biomarkers and a new generation of neuromodulation therapeutics. In this talk, I will describe our recent effort on developing single cell voltage imaging techniques, and the application of voltage imaging, along with calcium imaging and optogenetic techniques, in probing circuit dynamics within the cortical-basal ganglion networks that are relevant for Parkinson’s disease and deep brain stimulation therapies.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Xue Han, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Boston University
Dr. Han is an Associate Professor at Boston University, Biomedical Engineering Department. Dr. Han received a B.S. degree from Beijing University in China, a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on inventing novel neurotechnologies and applying innovative approaches to probe the cellular and network mechanisms of brain disorders and brain stimulation therapies. She has been recognized by many distinguished awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the NIH New Innovator Award, the Pew Scholarship, the DARPA Young Faculty Award, the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship and the Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship.
ABOUT THE 2021-2022 BME SEMINAR SERIES
