Megan Heenan

Lecturer in the Discipline of Biomedical Engineering

Megan Heenan is a lecturer in discipline in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University.

Her area of interest is product development and commercialization, with an emphasis on products that expand healthcare access. Her goal is to help graduate engineers discover their passion for innovation, product development, and product management by teaching principles of product ideation, design and development.

Her experience in product development comes from almost a decade working in device development and translation. She worked as a biomedical and regulatory engineer for a medical device company in Hanoi, Vietnam, working on the development of a neonatal CPAP device. She then spent six years as the Director of Technology Development for the Rice University Rice360 Institute for Global Health Technologies, where she helped develop multiple technologies for neonatal healthcare in low-resource settings. After moving to New York state, she worked as the Product Development Manager for a prosthetic device startup in the Hudson Valley.

She joined the faculty of Columbia University in the fall of 2023. Heenan is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (BS Neuroscience, BSE Bioengineering) and Marquette University (PhD Biomedical Engineering).
