Ke Cheng Receives Prestigious Coulter Award
Ke Cheng, the Alan L. Kaganov Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been honored with the Walter H. Coulter Award for Healthcare Innovation. The annual recognition by the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) goes to individuals who are making innovative advances in the field of biomedical engineering. Cheng received the award for his pioneering work on regenerative medicine and cardiovascular/pulmonary bioengineering.
Specifically, the Coulter Award notes Cheng’s work in “Minimally invasive delivery of therapeutics to the heart with biomaterials and devices.”
At Columbia Engineering, work from the Cheng BioTherapeutics lab has appeared in numerous publications, including Nature Materials, Nature Biomedical Engineering and more. The lab focuses on developing innovative biomaterials and devices for cardiovascular diseases and isolating patient-specific and organ-specific adult stem cells and testing their regenerative potential in small/large animal models of diseases.
Innovation and research are best achieved with collaboration. Underscoring that sentiment, Cheng credited the hard work and dedication of his team– a reflection of “the collaborative spirit fostered within Columbia.”
